the first book published in the phonetic Deseret alphabet, which was created at the University of Deseret under the direction of Brigham Young as a means of simplifying the English language. It was never widely accepted, and only four books were ever published using this alphabet, all in 1868 and 1869. Features a key for translating the Deseret characters into sounds, but is otherwise entirely in Deseret. Flake 2817.
